Linked Shell Shawl Pattern

Warm & Cozy Shawl

I made this shawl for myself as my office is always a bit chilly and I'm tired of working while wearing a coat.  I made this shawl in just a couple of days.  It's an easy shell pattern with just a little bit extra.  I worked this one from the center out in 2 halves.  It would also be pretty in a variegated or slow-color changing yarn.  I found the Linked Shell Stitch in a book called, Crochet Stitch Dictionary. First half - Ch 74

Row 1 - (RS) dc in 4th ch from hook, *skip 2 ch's, 5 dc in next ch, skip 2 ch's, dc in next 2 ch's.  Repeat from * to the end.  You will have 10 shells and 11 - 2 dc groups.  Turn.

Row 3 - Ch 3, 1 dc in space between 1st and 2nd dc, skip 3 dc, 5 dc shell in space between the 2 dc group, *skip 3 dc, 1 dc between 2nd and 3rd dc of shell, 1 dc between 3rd and 4th dc of shell, skip 3 dc, 5 dc shell in space between the 2 dc group, repeat from *, ending with 2 dc in the turning chain.  Turn.

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 until you have 60 rows.

Row 61 - Ch 3, dc in space between 1st and 2nd dc, skip 3 dc, 9 tr in space between the 2 dc group, *skip 3 dc, 1 dc between 2nd and 3rd dc of shell, 1 dc between 3rd and 4th dc of shell, skip 3 dc, 9 tr in space between the 2 dc group, repeat from *, ending with 2 dc in the turning chain.  Finish off.

You are half done.  Now go back to the beginning chain and with the right side facing you, attach the yarn in the right corner and work Row 1 into the other side of the chain.  The shells and dc's should all match up like a mirror image.  Continue to work the second half just as you did the first half until you complete all 61 rows.  Finish off and weave in ends.
